For over 100 years C.F. Tompkins Co. provided quality furniture and accessories for Boston's North Shore families. The furniture business of Coles Frederick Tompkins came a long way since the days he sold his wares off the back of a horse drawn wagon. That was the turn of the century, before the founding of C.F. Tompkins Co. Furniture on Washington Street in Salem, Massachusetts. It was before the Great Salem Fire of 1914, which indirectly provided an impetus for the business.C.F. Tompkins Co. has seen two world wars, the Great Depression, and changes in both its community and its industry.

While many things changed over the years, some things didn't. C.F. Tompkins Co. was always owned and operated by the Tompkins Family who maintaned the same strong principles that Coles started the business with.
